Ziad Jamil Abdel Fattah Hager ( March 3, 1939 ) is a Palestinian politician, writer, journalist, and novelist. He was born in the Palestinian city of Tulkarm. He is one of the leaders of the Fatah movement , and one of the most prominent figures of the contemporary Palestinian revolution . He is the founder and president of the Palestinian News Agency “Wafa ,” and a member of the Council. The Palestinian National Council member in the Palestine Liberation Organization for many sessions,  and the former president of the Union of Arab News Agencies , the Palestinian Information Service , and the Palestinian National Library . He is very close to President Yasser Arafat , and witnessed all the events and facts alongside him. Ziad Abdel Fattah is called “the media legend of the Palestinian revolution.” 

His upbringing and life

Ziad Jamil Abdel Fattah Hajar was born in the western neighborhood of the Palestinian city of Tulkarm on March 3, 1939 in a house located in the vicinity of Al-Fadhiliya School and the Khadoori Institute in the city. [5]  [6] He received his primary, preparatory, and secondary education in the schools of his city of Tulkarm , He completed high school at the prestigious Al-Fadhiliyya School in the city. 

He obtained a diploma in education and psychology, and worked as a teacher for three years in a number of schools, then moved to Kuwait where he worked as a teacher for five years,  and that period witnessed the launch of the Fatah movement , so Ziad joined the movement, and then I asked him The Palestinian leadership in 1968 went to Egypt to establish “Al-Asifa Radio” in Cairo .

With the start of work in Cairo, Ziad joined Ain Shams University, majoring in law , where he graduated and obtained a university degree later in 1975 . [9] In 1971, he founded Daraa Radio in Syria , and nine months later he moved to Beirut , where he founded the Palestinian News Agency (Wafa) in 1972 , and directly assumed its presidency in accordance with a decision issued by the Palestine Liberation Organization on June 5 , 1972. He also assumed the editor-in-chief position there. “ Palestine Revolution Magazine ” is the central magazine of the Palestine Liberation Organization . 

In 1974 he assumed the presidency of the Palestinian media team in New York, where he accompanied Yasser Arafat to the United Nations General Assembly ,  and in 1978 he assumed the presidency of the Union of Arab News Agencies ,  and in 1982 he founded the “Al-Markah newspaper” in Beirut under the fire of war, He escaped death in more than one incident. 

He then left with President Yasser Arafat for Tunisia , where he continued to head the Wafa News Agency until the signing of the Oslo Accords and his return to Palestine in 1994. Then President Yasser Arafat appointed him again to head the Wafa News Agency after arriving home and establishing the Palestinian National Authority .

On February 12, 1996  a presidential decree was issued by President Yasser Arafat establishing the Palestinian Information Service ,  and assigning Ziad Abdel Fattah to head it as its first president in addition to his duties in Wafa , and in 1997 a presidential decree was issued establishing the library. The Palestinian National Council was Ziad Abdel Fattah, its first president. He also served as editor-in-chief of “Roya Magazine,” which specializes in Palestinian affairs and was issued in 2000 by the State Information Service . On May 26, 2005, Ziad Abdel Fattah ended his presidency of both the Palestinian News Agency and the Palestinian Information Service . 

Ziad Abdel Fattah participated in a large number of international and cultural conferences, including the Cairo International Book Fair . He visited most countries of the world during his literary and media work.  He was also elected in Tunisia in 1986 as editor-in-chief of the “ Lotus ” literary magazine, the mouthpiece of the Writers’ Union. Asia and Africa for five years until it stopped publishing in 1990 . He is one of the founders of the General Union of Palestinian Writers and Journalists, and a member of the General Secretariat of the Union of Arab Journalists .

“The Diamond Polisher,” a book published in 2019 , by Kulham Publishing House. The book is 308 pages long, in which Ziad Abdel Fattah revealed information published for the first time about his close friend, the poet Mahmoud Darwish . It is noteworthy that Ziad Abdel Fattah, accompanied by Mahmoud Darwish, wrote all of President Yasser Arafat’s speeches .
