The Dutch
municipality of Khorenkom appointed the Palestinian-Syrian girl, Lulia Hamed,
to be the mayor of children in the municipality. The decision to appoint her to
that position was announced by Mayor Samuel Hull and Mayor Rainey Millisan.
"Lulia
Hamed", who is 11 years old, will carry out many tasks, according to the
municipality's website, as she will regularly participate in various activities
in the city, and will take care of issues of concern to children in the
municipality.
Mayor Samuel
Hewell and Mayor Rene Millisan have mentioned that a new mayor is appointed for
children every year and children are given the opportunity to register and
apply for the position through schools, according to the Dutch municipality
website, Khorenkem.
Khorencom
municipality said that it is important to involve children in politics and
administration in the city, and to learn the duties of the mayor and how things
are going in it, moreover, it is an opportunity for the municipality to know
the desires of children.
Lulia lives
with her family in the municipality of Khorenkm, located near the city of
Dordrecht in the south of the country, with her family, who fled due to the
conflict in Syria since the beginning of 2011, in search of safety and
security.
