The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Refugees (UNRWA) honored two teachers and a student in Gaza for their important educational initiatives within the Inspire Palestine competition.

The honoring ceremony was held in Gaza City in the presence of the Deputy Head of the Education Program, Tawfiq Al-Hourani, and other employees from the UNRWA Education Program, in addition to representatives of the Ministry of Education.

UNRWA stated in a statement, a copy of which was received by Safa Agency on Tuesday, that it is one of the international institutions participating in the Inspire Palestine Program, which is a nationwide program that aims to improve the physical, psychological, and social well-being of Palestinian children and develop the educational environment. The annual competition aims to stimulate and encourage the creation of creative and distinguished health and educational initiatives.

She reported that in this year's session, 74 initiatives were presented by government schools and UNRWA schools in the Gaza Strip, and 11 of them won first place, three of them representing UNRWA schools.

Al-Nuseirat Preparatory Girls School “B” was distinguished by presenting seven initiatives, two of which qualified for the final stage. Maram Omar Al-Taweel, an eighth-grade student, presented the “Little Inventor” initiative, where she decided to simplify science lessons for her classmates by designing scientific experiments drawn from the chemistry and physics curriculum and creating scientific models of the body’s systems in addition to successful physical experiments. This successful experience will be extended to UNRWA schools.

Maram also distinguished herself in this competition by being the only student who qualified for the final stage, along with many teachers, school counselors, and health coordinators. This demonstrates the extent of her creativity and determination, despite the daily challenges faced by UNRWA students in Gaza.

Teacher Noha Saadi Ghoneim presented the oral and dental health initiative, which teaches science at Nuseirat Preparatory Girls School B, with the aim of raising awareness among female students of the importance of oral and dental care.

According to an UNRWA statement, this initiative is based on developing health and aesthetic values through periodic visits to UNRWA health centers and study days on dental health practices. The success of the initiative is evident in the high percentage of female students who continue to use the brush on a daily basis and the decrease in complaints related to dental health.

The third winning initiative focuses on enhancing cultural and community participation by activating the role of the student parliament and holding discussion panels to present key issues such as the right to live in a healthy and clean environment, as well as other issues related to human rights.

The initiative presented by Mrs. Nadia Khamis Hassan, a teacher at Aleppo Joint Primary School B, included holding awareness meetings for parents as well as periodic visits to local community institutions.

The agency’s statement stated that the Inspire Palestine initiative is in harmony with the education reform plan adopted by the Education Program more than five years ago with the aim of creating a creative school environment with a focus on developing the central school elements: the student, the teacher and the principal in order to serve the fourth goal of the sustainable development goals, which calls for ensuring Providing inclusive and quality education for all and promoting lifelong learning.
