Information

 Ahmed Amin Maraashli was born in Safed. He studied primary and preparatory levels in its schools, then moved to the Ibrahimiyya College in Jerusalem to continue his secondary studies, which he completed in 1947. He worked as a science teacher at Safed Secondary School in 1947-1948, and in 1948 he participated in defending Safed until the Jews occupied it. He moved to Syria and worked in the field of teaching in the middle school of the town of Salamiyah (Hama) and in the high schools of the city of Homs until 1958. Meanwhile, he studied law at Damascus University, and obtained his degree in 1958.
 Ahmed Maraashli joined the Baath Socialist Party in 1949. He contributed to the party’s struggle in the first years of its founding, and reached leadership positions in it.
He headed the Department of Cooperative Guidance and the Department of Agricultural Relations in the Central Administration of the Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor in Damascus during the period 1959 - 1964 AD. He also assumed the position of Director General of the General Authority for Palestinian Refugees in Syria and Chairman of its Board of Directors in the period 1964 - 1966 AD. 
He was elected as a member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization and Head of the Department of Education and Higher Education (formerly the Department of Educational and Cultural Affairs) in the period from 1971 - 1973, then Director General of the Department of Education and Higher Education in the period from 1973 - 1981; In addition to being elected as a representative of Palestine on the Executive Council of the Arab Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization between 1971 and 1981, he headed the Palestine delegation to the eighteenth session of UNESCO in Paris in 1974, in which the Palestine Liberation Organization was accepted as an observer member for the first time. 
He was a member of the Administrative Council of the Coordination Center between the Arab National Committees between 1978 and 1981. He had great credit and a prominent role in establishing the Palestinian Encyclopedia Authority in 1974. He served as Chairman of the Board of Directors from its inception until his death.
In appreciation of his efforts in the scientific, cultural and educational fields and his role in establishing and developing the Arab League for Education, Culture and Science through his participation in the Executive Council and from his position as Director General of the Department of Education and Higher Education; The Arab League Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization awarded him the silver medal in an official ceremony during the General Conference session in December 1981. 
He died at the peak of his cultural and intellectual activity in Damascus on January 16, 1988, following a sudden heart attack.
