Palestinian judge Khaled Abdel Halim Al-Hassan was born in 1930 in the village of “Aylut”, Nazareth district in the Palestinian Galilee, and he completed middle school in Nazareth.
In 1948, he took refuge with his family in Syria, where he worked as a clerk for some lawyers so that he could support his family. At the same time, he completed secondary school, like most of his Palestinian refugee peers, through evening studies. Then he joined the Faculty of Law at the University of Damascus and obtained a bachelor’s degree in 1959.
He was appointed as a judge in the city of Al-Hasakah, then in the city of Amuda in northern Syria, and returned to Damascus in 1966 when he was appointed prosecutor, then head of the public prosecution.
In 1974, Khaled Abdel Halim Al-Hassan was appointed President of the Court of First Instance, in 1976 he was appointed as an advisor to the Criminal Court, and in 1978 he was appointed as an advisor to the Court of Appeal, which is the highest level in the chain of judicial authority courts in the country.
In 1984, Judge Khaled Al-Hassan retired from the judiciary and practiced the legal profession until his death.
Judge Khaled Abdel Halim Al-Hassan is considered one of the most prominent judiciaries in the Syrian Arab Republic, and his rulings are considered a reference in the judiciary in Syria.
Khaled Abdel Halim Al-Hassan died in 2010 in the Syrian capital, Damascus, and was buried there.
