A delegation of students from the French Language Department at An-Najah National University, headed by Dr. Wassim Bishawi, participated in the activities of the “les Voix d’Orléans” International Festival in the period between the 4th and 6th of April in the French city of Orléans. The delegation included the students: Ibaa Merhi and Rima Al-Tamimi. Khairallah Taamari, Haitham Al-Ghafi, and Yaqoub Hawash.
Organized by the French municipality of Orléans, the festival focused on the role of the media in transmitting information and delivering news in light of the continuous technological development and political changes taking place in the world. The festival also brought together specialists in the field of media and Francophone journalists from Europe and the Arab world through discussion panels and cultural meetings on a variety of topics.
Within the festival, over the course of two days, the delegation presented a presentation on the media reality experienced by Palestinian youth, talked about the importance of the media in conveying the truth about what is happening in the occupied Palestinian territories, and expressed its opinion on the credibility of the visual, audio and written media and the method of achieving objectivity and transparency in conveying the news.
The great and important role that An-Najah National University plays in serving the media and society through its radio and satellite channels was also discussed. After showing a film about academic, cultural and social voices from the city of Nablus, the delegation answered the public’s inquiries about the current situation in Palestine and the Palestinian youth’s vision of the importance of the media and the most effective method. In addition to the activities of the annual cultural festival, the Palestinian delegation was hosted in press interviews with broadcasters and reporters for French audio and print media, as well as in discussion panels within the Faculty of Law and Economic Sciences of the University of Orléans.
