The Palestinian young man, Omar Shanti, residing in the United States of America, obtained: Winner of the Medreset Prize for Young Writers, funded by the European Union.
Shanti received the award from the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs, Policy and Security, Federica Mogherini.
Shanti studied computer science, economics, and Middle Eastern and North African studies at Northwestern University in Illinois, USA, in 2018.
Omar holds the position of media officer for the Students for Justice in Palestine (SJP) group at Northwestern University. It is a gathering of students and community members concerned with the Palestine Solidarity Movement in the country in which it is active.
He is also an active member of the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement against Israel, which led him to be pursued by the American-Israeli organization Canary Mission.
The Canary Mission website placed Omar Shanti’s name on the “blacklist,” which includes activists who defend the rights of Palestinians and demand the liberation of Palestine from the heart of the United States, and accused them of “terrorism and anti-Semitism.”
