Success after success is achieved by the students of Al-Quds Open University. We do not exaggerate when we say that it is the “University of Creativity and Excellence.” Here is Omar Nassar, a student specializing in computer information systems who is now in his third year at the Al-Quds Open University branch in Qalqilya, proving once again that his ambition is not... It was his limit when he owned a meteorological station that was unparalleled at the national level.

The story began with Omar Nassar’s personal inclinations since childhood. He followed explanations of weather depressions on the Internet. He was fascinated by everything related to the weather, until he joined a group called “Homeland Weather” on Facebook, in order to exchange information, ideas, and experiences, until he made a manual gauge to measure rain from available tools. (A bottle of water and paste) to measure the amount of rain during the day, and he bought a simple thermometer.

Nassar says: “I thought about developing myself, and I participated with stations concerned with training on weather models and maps, so I was then able to produce a weather forecast at the governorate level as a first level, and then at the Palestine level as a second level, and I worked hard to search for the purchase of an advanced weather station until I was able to By contacting the "Davis" company on the Internet, I purchased with my own money the latest weather monitoring station in Palestine, at a cost of $4000. This contains sensors to measure atmospheric pressure, humidity, dew point, temperature, wind direction and speed, amount of rain...etc. The station consists of two parts: the first is a control panel inside the house, and the second is those (sensors) on the roof of the house that send the control panel a data update every (3) seconds.”

Nassar adds: “All this information is archived on a computer every half hour, and can be returned to when needed, and the benefit of archiving is to calculate rain and temperature rates for the city of Qalqilya over the years.

Nassar confirms that his specialty (computer information systems) at Al-Quds Open University played a major role in his dealings with the meteorological station. He established a page on Facebook called the “Palestine Astronomical Observatory” that provides general astronomical information in the form of designs that are easy for the reader. He also follows the crescent moons and dates. months, and obtained membership in the International Astronomy Center in the Emirates.

He added, "As an ambitious student, I am developing myself by taking advantage of my specialty by creating an application on smart phones, so that anyone can access the station's data directly, make future forecasts of weather conditions, and provide a detailed bulletin for the next three or four days."

After being asked about the local community’s support for him, he replied: “I went to more than one party and did not find anyone to support me, and from here and through my university, I am calling on institutions and the local community to support this effort in a way that benefits my country and my country. Meteorology has a major impact on our lives... and all Thanks to my university, which appreciated me and my idea and contributed to promoting it after my meeting with the director of the “Qalqilya Branch,” Dr. Nour Al-Aqra’, who showed great interest in the idea and application. He had praised my creativity in this field, and assured me of “Al-Quds Open”’s interest in all its students and in promoting their creativity.”

Dr. says Al-Aqraa: “Nassar did creative work that benefits the local community and extends to the entire Palestinian community. We at the university welcome and even embrace creative works and ideas, and we are fully prepared to take care of our students,” calling on Nassar to make more efforts to develop his idea and hobby.

Regarding his community activities, Nassar provides school students with classes on meteorology in their schools.

Regarding the difficulties he faced, Nassar confirms that the occupation was an obstacle as it forced me to make the connection between the two parts of the station wired, which was originally to be wireless in an open area using a wireless control panel. Nassar’s speech to Al-Quds Open University: “Thank you, my university. I am proud of you.”
