Amin Al-Tamimi ( 1892 - October 4, 1944 ), whose full name is “Muhammad Amin” Ragheb Mustafa Ahmed Al-Tamimi , is a Palestinian politician, one of the most prominent men of the Palestinian national movement in the first half of the twentieth century , and the first Minister of the Interior in the history of Jordanian governments in 1921 .

His biography

“Muhammad Amin” Ragheb Mustafa Ahmed Al-Tamimi was born in Nablus in 1892 to the extended “Tamimi” family in Hebron and Nablus . He received his education in Palestinian schools and then moved to Istanbul , where he studied at its university. [2] After his graduation, he was appointed assistant to the governor of Beirut , then he assumed the position of governor of the city of Damascus , then the position of governor of the Sanjak of Houran , then the Sanjak of Homs , the Sanjak of Urfa , and the Sanjak of Deir ez-Zor , then he assumed the position of governor of Ajloun , Ma’an, and Karak , then governor of the Mosul Province .

Amin Al-Tamimi participated in founding the Arab Independence Party . He was also one of the founders of the Arab Girl Association , where he was elected on December 20 , 1918 to the new administrative body of the association. On May 13, 1920 , he was elected a founding member of the association and became its general secretary. [3]

When the Arab government was established in Damascus under the leadership of King Faisal bin Al-Hussein, Amin Al-Tamimi assumed the position of advisor in the government of Prince Zeid bin Al-Hussein, which was formed in 1920. After the French mandate took control of Syria, Al-Tamimi was forced to leave Syria with a number of men from the Arab Independence Party , so he moved to eastern Jordan and founded It has a branch of the Arab Independence Party , and he assumed the position of administrator of the Ajloun Brigade in April 1921 , which is the same position he had assumed in 1914 during the time of the Ottoman Empire . In conjunction with this position, he was also appointed by the Emir of the Emirate of Transjordan , Abdullah I bin Al-Hussein. He held the position of Interior Advisor (Minister of the Interior) in the first government in the history of the Emirate of Transjordan , which was the first government of Rashid Tali’ formed on April 11 , 1921 . [3]

After the resignation of the government on June 23 , 1921 , Al-Tamimi returned to Palestine and joined there with the men of the Palestinian National Movement . He participated within the Palestinian delegation in the London Conference , which was held in August 1921. He also participated in a group of Palestinian delegations to several conferences . Including the First Bludan Conference in 1937, accompanied by Hassan Shaker Hammad and others. [3]

In 1925 , Al-Tamimi became a member of the Supreme Palestinian Islamic Council headed by Haj Amin Al-Husseini , where he represented the Nablus region in the council, succeeding Abdul Latif Salah . [4] Then he was elected to the position of Vice-President of the Council and moved to reside in the city of Jerusalem . [5]

On March 23 , 1938 , the Secretary-General of the British Mandatory government in Palestine issued a statement announcing the dismissal of Al-Tamimi from the membership of the Supreme Islamic Council due to his national activities against the Mandate. Al-Tamimi was forced to leave Jerusalem secretly, heading to Beirut . He had participated in the Palestinian delegation to the London Conference , which was held in London on February 7 , 1939 .

Al-Tamimi then moved to Baghdad , where he participated in Rashid Ali al-Kilani’s revolution in 1941. After the failure of the movement, he went to Iran , where the British authorities arrested him and exiled him with many of his companions to Salisbury , the capital of Southern Rhodesia (later renamed Zimbabwe ).

His death

Amin Al-Tamimi died on October 4 , 1944 in exile in the city of Salisbury in Zimbabwe , after contracting hepatitis . He was buried there in the Islamic cemetery in Salisbury .
