Information

Sheikh Ahmed Muhammad Al-Bistami was born in Nablus and studied religious and linguistic sciences in its schools and in Damascus. Upon his return to Nablus, he received a warm reception. He memorized the Holy Qur’an and was well-versed in religious sciences. As for Arabic, he was distinguished in it and was referred to as “Lebanese.” He worked as a teacher in the Salah school that produced the pioneers. He also worked as a legal official.

He had good qualities that made him close to the hearts of people and the elite of society in Nablus and Palestine. He is a glorious poet and an eloquent orator. He wrote a book on religious supplications and rituals in collaboration with Hajj Hassan Hammad. Muhammad Azza Darwaza described him as: “He was a bright, open-minded, religious prophet, a poet, and a good speaker. He was the favorite student of Sheikh Bakr Al-Tamimi. He worked as a teacher in government schools after the occupation, and had a teaching position at the Grand Mosque. He had a son named Muhammad, who sought knowledge as a father and became a writer and scholar.”

One of the Damascene newspapers ran a competition to describe medical glasses, and they call them “Karnak” in Damascus, provided that the description is poetry, and the sheikh won with these two verses:

They said: Your lover has become lazy
Is this from a sick person with his eyelids?
I answered them, but he had deliberately put it there
To protect the wilderness from the arrows of his eyes
