Information

Student Nour El-Din Youssef Tardi from the Master’s program in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the Faculty of Medicine at Al-Quds University discussed his master’s thesis entitled:

“transformation effect on MCF10A cells harboring different p53″ variants HRAS G12V”.

Student Tardi said that the study focused on the role of the effect of the HRAS gene, which contains a genetic mutation that enables it to remain in a permanent state of operation, in the transformation of normal mammary cells into cancerous cells, due to the presence of various mutations in the TP53 gene in those cells.

The student, Tardi, stated that by combining the two genes in normal mammary cells, and studying the transformations that occurred in those cells at the level of morphological characteristics and the level of gene expression of some genes related to those characteristics, it was possible to create a model of cancerous transformation of breast tissue, which can be used to help understand The nature of these cancerous transformations, which in turn contributes to improving methods of detection, diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer.

It is noteworthy that the student Nour El-Din conducted part of his research related to his thesis at the German Cancer Research Center -DKFZ, which is the largest cancer research center in Europe, and where he spent approximately 4 months, where his research visit focused on training in some techniques. Which he later used to conduct his research at Al-Quds University, such as conducting some tests on normal mammary cells and stimulating the process of converting those cells into cancerous cells, by introducing some genes modified by viruses capable of that.

The discussion committee consisted of Dr. Zaidoun Salah, Chairman of the Committee and Supervisor of the Master’s Thesis, and Dr. Nawar Al-Qutb, external examiner, and Dr. Fawaz Awad, internal examiner.

At the end of the discussion, the committee recommended that the student succeed and be awarded a master’s degree in biochemistry and molecular biology.
