Nasser al-Din Muhammad Ahmad al-Shaer (December 9, 1961 in Sebastia), former Minister of Education in Palestine in the unity government.

He worked as Dean of the Faculty of Sharia at An-Najah National University, and is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Jurisprudence and Legislation, specializing in Comparative Jurisprudence, and Professor of Comparative Religions.

He served as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Education in the previous government, during which he was detained for two months in the occupation prisons. He also served as Minister of Education in the unity government.

Educational attainment
1980: General Secondary Education, Scientific Branch, Sebastia Secondary School. 1985: Bachelor’s degree in (Jurisprudence and Legislation) with an excellent grade from the Department of Islamic Studies at An-Najah National University in Nablus, with a grade of 85.13%. He was ranked first in the class and obtained a scholarship for the Master’s degree. 1989: Master’s degree in (Jurisprudence and Legislation) with an excellent grade from the Department of Islamic Studies at An-Najah National University in Nablus, and a master’s thesis in (Fundamentals of Jurisprudence) with the subject (The Concept of Dissent among Fundamentalists). When he received an excellent grade and was studying on a scholarship, he was appointed as a lecturer in the department after his graduation. 1996: Doctorate from the Department of Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Manchester in Britain, and his doctoral thesis made a comparison between Islam and Judaism, which included a special focus on the status of women in the two religions. 1998: He participated after his doctorate in a scientific program on religion and democracy in America, and obtained a certificate from the International Institute of American Studies at New York University.

An attempt on his life
Nasser al-Din al-Shaer was subjected to an assassination attempt on July 22, 2022, when gunmen opened fire from inside a vehicle that stopped in front of al-Shaer’s vehicle, resulting in him being hit by approximately 6 bullets in his legs.

1985-1989: Teaching in public and private secondary schools in the field of education. 1989-1990: Faculty member in the Department of Islamic Studies at An-Najah National University in Nablus, after which he left the university on leave to study for a doctorate in Britain. The poet is married to Mrs. Hoda Abdel Karim Mahmoud, and has two sons (Qasim and Abdullah) and four daughters (Tasneem, Janan, Arwa, and Abrar).
