She co-authored Collateral Damage: America's War Against Iraqi Civilians with Chris Hedges. She is married to the American scholar of Islamic studies, Jonathan AC Brown.

She produced Al Jazeera English's special on the Palestine Papers in January 2011, a four-day program on the largest diplomatic leak in the history of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. She drew national attention with her column on Homeland, which was described as "TV's most Islamophobic show". In 2013, I spoke at New America to discuss the history and impact of surveillance on target communities.

Since graduating from Columbia Journalism School in 2006, Laila El-Erian's work has appeared in The Nation, The Independent, The Guardian, Huffington Post, Salon, and many other publications.
