Salim Daou is a Palestinian actor, director, and artist, born in the Palestinian village of Al-Baina in northern Israel. Slim excelled in the fields of cinema, theater, and television programs, and acted in dozens of plays in many languages. It also offers entertainment and cultural evenings and meaningful theatrical performances.

His upbringing and life
Salim was born on November 1, 1950 in the village of Al-Ba’inah, Akko District in the Western Galilee, to a family of farmers. However, after Israel confiscated the village lands in 1963, the peasant life in the village ended and he moved to work in construction. He loved acting and imitation at an early age, when he was four or five years old. He began imitating and acting in front of his parents and teachers at school. After completing his secondary education, Slim enrolled in the Beit Zvi Higher Institute of Acting in Ramat Gan. He then traveled to Paris, France, and joined the Jacques Lecoq Institute, which is considered one of the world's most prestigious institutes for teaching the arts of movement, mime, and comedy. Slim still works in acting and directing in theatre, cinema and television.

His artistic career
The beginning of his artistic career was in “Beit Al-Karma” in the year 1970 in the city of Haifa, as part of several plays that were admired by the audience, such as the play “The Confused Sultan” by Tawfiq Al-Hakim, and then he moved on to study acting in “Beit Zvi” (Higher Institute of Theater) between The years 1972-1975. He then went to France to complete his studies in theater at the “Jacques Lecoq” Institute, the great French theatre’s institute between the years 1977-1979, with a scholarship he obtained from the French government, so he traveled there for a period of 8 years.

Salim Daou performed prominent works in his field, working in five theaters. His work as an actor varied. He used to tell stories with a troupe of narrators, and he worked with one of the famous children’s theaters in Paris, “Le Pain d’Orge,” then the “de l’Atelier” theater, where he presented two plays.

Salim acted in dozens of plays produced by local theaters in his home country and international theatres. In Paris, he played the play “King Oedipus” at the “Lulier” Theater in 1980. He played the main role in the play “The Jew in the Duke’s Place” at the Municipal Theater in Haifa in 1992, as well as the play “On the Pavement” at the “Beit Lessin Theater” in Tel Aviv. Aviv in 1990.

Salim Daou held the position of director of the Karma Theater between 1986 and 1998. He also taught the art of acting in France between the years 1980-1984, as well as in Tel Aviv and at the University of Haifa for 5 years.

Daou has a long career and extensive experience in long and short films. He founded the Muftah Association for Performing and Cinematic Arts in 1999.

His works
• “Sag Salim”: A play that tells the story of a Palestinian who was displaced from his lands during the Nakba in 1948. It recounts the finest details of the events he faced and the difficulties and obstacles of displacement and an attempt to find work, food, and education. This play tells the story of its hero in an interesting and poignant way, and it expresses every Palestinian who was displaced or remained in his country and who suffers under the occupation.

• “Keys”: A documentary film that paints a picture of the dream of return dreamed by the Palestinians who were displaced in 1948 and who still keep the keys to their homes in the hope of returning to their homes.

• His role as “Abu Nidal” in the series “Shaghal Arab” which was broadcast on the Israeli Channel 2. The writer of the series is Palestinian journalist Sayyed Kashou.

Achievements and Awards

Awards
During his artistic career, he won many awards, such as the Best Actor Award in Israeli Cinema for the year 1989. He also won the Best Actor Award from the Malmö Swedish Arab Film Festival in its eleventh session for his role in the film (Gaza Monamor) by the brothers Tarzan and Arab Nasser.
