Emad Hajjaj, born 1967 in Ramallah is a Palestinian cartoonist. He was educated in the Al Wehdat United Nations Refugee Camp in Jordan, before studying Fine Art at Yarmouk University with a minor in journalism, from which he graduated in 1987.

He published his first cartoon in the university newspaper (Sahafat Al Yarmouk) in 1987.

After graduation, he worked for several local newspapers, including Akher Khabar, Al Ahali, Al Raseef, Al Bilad, Al Mustaqbal, Al Dustour, and Al Rai. In 1992 he started working for the London-based Al Quds Al Arabi newspaper, and then moved to work for Al Dustour. Since 1993 Hajjaj has been working at the leading Jordanian daily Al Rai, until he was dismissed after one of his controversial cartoons in the year 2000.

Achievements and Awards

His first exhibition in 1997 in Riwaq Al Balqa gallery in Fuheis under the motto "Imad Hajjaj's mental world".

  • His second exhibition was held in 1999, in the City Hall of Amman.
  • His third exhibition (oil on canvas) was held in March 2003. Zara Expo Amman.
  • American University (AUB) exhibition, Beirut May- 2003.
  • Jordan Social Club – Dubai exhibition , Dubai Nov. 2003.

  • 2000 he achieved the honorary mentioning for the (Olympic Humor) competition, organized by fanfuuny.com (Italy).
  • Winner of Arabic Press Award 2006, (Dubai Press Club DPC), Best Published Cartoon in Arabic Media in the year 2005, for his cartoon (The Crying Arabic Camel).
