Information

Haidar Mahmoud (1942-) is a Jordanian poet of Palestinian origins, born in the town of Tira, Haifa , Palestine . [1] He is famous for his patriotic poetry about Palestine and Jordan. He is considered one of the most prominent Jordanian poets, as he made significant contributions to enriching the Jordanian cultural movement. He published a number of poetry collections that praised Jordan, the Hashemites, and the Arab nation, and some of his poetic works were translated into English, French, and Spanish. He assumed the position of Minister of Culture in 2002-2003 and was a member of the 6th and 27th Senate.

His life
His education

He was displaced with his family in 1948 to Al-Karama camp , where he studied primary school. Then his family moved to Amman in 1955, where he completed high school at Al-Hussein College in 1959. He then obtained a bachelor’s degree in media from London in 1963, when the then Prime Minister Wasfi Al-Tall sent him to study media. In Britain, he also obtained a Master’s degree in Business Administration from the University of California in 1979.

His work

He worked as editorial secretary in Al-Jihad newspaper from 1962-1964, then presenter of news and political and cultural programs on Jordanian Television (1964-1976), general controller of programs on Jordanian Radio (1975-1978), advisor to the General Director of Television from 1978-1979, and advisor Media officer for the Armed Forces (1980/1981), and director of the Department of Culture and Arts (1981-1989).

He also worked as a media advisor to the Prime Minister in 1990, and was appointed Jordanian ambassador to Tunisia (1991-1999), then general director of the Hussein Cultural Center of the Greater Amman Municipality (2001/2002). He became Minister of Culture (2002/2003), before returning to the administration. Al-Hussein Cultural Center again and remained in this position until 2005. He was a member of the twenty-sixth and twenty-seventh Jordanian Senate .

The researcher Ahmed Al-Jadaa wrote about him , saying: “ I knew him when he said: “No” to the face of the man whom all the Arab masses praised, as he shed the blood of scholars and hung them on the gallows. Haidar Mahmoud said it while he was still in the prime of his youth. This “No” is recorded for him. Because it was the position of a brave poet. I knew him at the time through his poem that he published in 1957. I knew him as a poet, and I did not meet him in person until he came forward to mend the rift that broke out in the Jordanian Publishers Union in 2005. I was then one of the six who met under his leadership, and the meeting ended with the writing of a document that led to it. To reconcile the two parties, I knew him through two noble positions, and then I followed him as a wonderful, creative poet between these two dates and beyond .

Sung poems

My heart did not beat for anything other than Jordan
It's still dalia
O house of Wasfi Al-Tall
descriptive
May God bless us
Our moon is full
We are the ones who woke up the sun
Millie, lavender flowers
Come on, Zain
Oh my branches
Our village is small
Oh Sham
It's the new year
Jordan, my love
Love card for Hussein
With him and through him we will go on
The blood of the two nobles
Our word was not for sale
She will not miss her days
Oh our army, oh Arab
Battlefield
Jordanian Arab Hashemite
A tribute to the Hashemite sword
Hashemite
This is Jordan
We love him
Quraysh night
Magic is the magic of forty
Troyed Al-Ahrar
And that word is forbidden
The two banks are twins
On starchy eyes
A kiss on the nation's forehead
With Hussein
And they love you
Eid morning
My country
On Yarmouk
Elegy of truth
If it wasn't me..me
Describe the hill , the land, and the people
