Nabulsi businessman Ayman Atallah is one of the young Palestinian business figures who was able to build a “balanced” public relations network, which forced many to respect and appreciate him, especially in light of his continued successes, whether at the commercial level or in community work.
Atallah received his basic and preparatory education in his hometown of Nablus. He still remembers his childhood and teenage years and considers them among the best moments of contemplation of his adulthood. What increased the excitement in that childhood was the mixing of study and work in his life, especially since his father was the director of one of the UNRWA schools. At the same time, he wanted to be self-reliant since the beginning of his life.
Be patient with the employer's orders
Atallah told Hayat and Souq: “I became aware of the world while I was behind the sewing machine.” He added that he used to go to one of the sewing workshops in Nablus from the early hours of the morning, and start his day by cleaning the machine and the floor that belonged to him, then he started working, and during that time he was patient with orders. The business owner had in his imagination that one day he would own a larger workshop than the one where he worked as just a simple tailor, or another project of his own, and this is what actually happened later.
In 1985, Atallah took the Tawjihi exam alongside his father, who held a Bachelor’s degree in Arts from An-Najah University in Nablus, who also decided to take the Tawjihi exam again. He later obtained a Master’s degree in Arts from the same university, and the father’s determination was to obtain more certificates that It increases his abilities, motivating the son, Ayman, to be determined to get what he wants and achieve the goals he had drawn in his imagination, especially since his relationship with his father was and still is a relationship of “friends.”
Realizing the first dream
Ayman’s first “scientific” steps after Tawjihi were to obtain a surveying diploma from the Qalandia Vocational Institute, in the year 1986, and he tried to find a job with his certificate, but to no avail. During that time, he continued to work as a tailor in the workshops of Nablus, which have always been characterized by their large numbers, unlike these days, and in the year 1988 and at the same time. With the outbreak of the “Stone Intifada,” he partnered with his brothers Magdy and Muhannad and established a modest tailoring workshop. Through his workshop, Atallah was keen to establish the culture of “Let us wear what we make and reject the products of the occupation.” In less than five years, the workshop was able to include more than sixty tailors. After the number did not exceed three people, in addition to Atallah providing job opportunities for about ten other sewing workshops in Nablus, in 1991 Ayman and his two brothers were able to open a “wholesale and retail” clothing exhibition, and two years later he opened another exhibition.
Immigration to China in preparation for return
With the outbreak of the “Al-Aqsa Intifada,” Ayman and his two brothers suffered a real setback, due to their inability to reach merchants in the West Bank, which led to the merchants accumulating their debts. The unfortunate result of this setback was the closure of the workshop, and after the major invasion of the city of Nablus in 2002, he decided to close the two exhibitions, and he traveled To China.
After arriving in China, he only had an amount of money not exceeding five thousand dollars. He settled in a city called “Guangzhou” and was able to establish an export and import office. During that time, he organized a good public relations network, and was able to begin exporting various types of Chinese goods, not to the West Bank. Not only the West, but also to Jordan, Saudi Arabia, the Emirates, Egypt and other countries. After about three years, Atallah’s office became the focus of attention of many Palestinian and Arab businessmen.
After about nine years, he decided to return to his homeland to invest in Nablus. It was his first attempt to invest in the field of livestock raising and dairy production. He rented a farm in the village of Tal near Nablus, bought about 50 heads of cattle, and tried to develop the project over the course of about a year, but the surrounding circumstances... It did not help him, which forced him not to continue with the project, and he began looking for another project.
Success... again
Not long after canceling the livestock project, he decided to enter the world of restaurants. In 2011, he established a restaurant called “Ward” in the Rafidia area, in which he was keen to combine the past and the present, and at a distance of approximately 360 square meters, managed by about 20 waiters. As a cook and an employee, the opening ceremony was held at the time by the former Governor of Nablus, Major General Jibreen Al-Bakri, and a number of representatives of the city’s institutions. Less than three years later, he established a new restaurant, but it was wider and larger, with an area of more than 1,000 square meters, and he called it “One Thousand and One Nights.” It has more than 60 employees, and was opened by the current governor of Nablus, Major General Akram Rajoub. The restaurant is very popular, especially with families.
Atallah recalls his childhood days, explaining that they were somewhat harsh, especially during his work in the tailoring workshops, considering the harsh manner in which his employers dealt with him had paid off and made him a man capable of facing difficulties.
Atallah advises today's youth to be patient with any profession, job or job, even if they are uncomfortable with it.
He said: Many of today's youth want to reach their goals quickly and without fatigue. He added, "Every beginning is difficult, but with time the person integrates with the work and coexists with it, and with determination and creativity, he succeeds and excels."
