Najib Bugila (born July 24, 1981) is a Salvadoran politician, businessman , and the 43rd President of El Salvador. Serving as president since June 1 , 2019, he is the first president since José Napoleon Duarte (1984-1989) not to have been elected as a candidate for either of the country's two main political parties: the left-leaning Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (FMLN) and the Nationalist Republican Alliance. Right-leaning group (ARENA).
Bugila served as mayor of Nuevo Cuscatlán for three years from 2012 to 2015, and then served for three years (from 2015 to 2018) as mayor of San Salvador, the country's capital. After winning the municipal elections as a member of the Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front, Boguila was expelled from the party in 2017.
