Najib Bugila (born July 24, 1981) is a Salvadoran politician, businessman , and the 43rd President of El Salvador. Serving as president since June 1 , 2019, he is the first president since José Napoleon Duarte (1984-1989) not to have been elected as a candidate for either of the country's two main political parties: the left-leaning Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (FMLN) and the Nationalist Republican Alliance. Right-leaning group (ARENA).

Bugila served as mayor of Nuevo Cuscatlán for three years from 2012 to 2015, and then served for three years (from 2015 to 2018) as mayor of San Salvador, the country's capital. After winning the municipal elections as a member of the Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front, Boguila was expelled from the party in 2017. In 2018, he founded his own political party: New Ideas . He sought to win the 2019 Salvadoran presidential election with the center-left Party of Democratic Change, but his plans changed when the Supreme Electoral Court issued a decision to dissolve the Party of Democratic Change. As a result, Boguila ran with the center-right Grand Alliance for National Unity and won the election by 53%. % of votes.

Homicides dropped by 50% during Bguila's first year in office, which he attributed to the deployment of thousands of police and soldiers in gang strongholds and increased security in prisons; His government was accused of secretly negotiating with the Mara Salvatrucha gang to reduce the number of murders.  The Bakila government arrested more than 75,000 people allegedly belonging to gangs in a national crackdown in response to the killing of more than 80 people by criminals during a single weekend in March 2022.

Protests broke out against Boukaila's government in September 2021 after Bitcoin was approved as legal tender.

His announcement of his candidacy in the 2024 Salvadoran general elections led to criticism by constitutional law experts and organizations that an immediate presidential rerun would violate the country's constitution.

The last president to seek re-election was António Saca in 2014, while the last president to be successfully re-elected was Maximiliano Hernández Martínez in 1944.

The powers of Buguila and his deputy Ulloa were suspended on 1 December 2023 in order to concentrate On their re-election campaign, Claudia Rodríguez de Guevara assumed the powers and duties of Guevara as acting president. His life

Najib Bugila was born on July 24, 1981. His mother is Olga Ortiz Bugila and his father is Armando Bugila Kattan, a prominent businessman of Palestinian origin . He converted to Islam and became an imam in mosques in El Salvador.  According to The Times of Israel , Najib Bakila's paternal grandparents were Palestinian Christians from Jerusalem and Bethlehem , while his maternal grandmother was Catholic and his maternal grandfather was Orthodox Christian . Naguib is married to Gabriela Rodriguez , a psychiatrist and educator with Eastern Jewish roots .

Najib showed signs of genius from his childhood. He founded his first company at the age of eighteen. According to El Faro newspaper, [26] he owns Yamaha El Salvador (which is the exclusive agent for Yamaha products in El Salvador). He is also the president and director of UberMate.

He was elected mayor of Nuevo Cuscatlan in 2012 with 49.7% of the vote. In 2015, he was elected mayor of San Salvador, obtaining 50.3% of the votes.

Buqila is considered one of the popular young politicians, although he has been criticized for not having a clear political vision to support his popular personality.  His dual religion was also controversial, as he has a Muslim father and a Christian mother, which cast doubt on the truth of his religious affiliation, which made him receive criticism for performing prayers in a mosque during the 2019 elections.  To refute this, he publicly stated that he considered himself A follower of the Christian religion according to the doctrine of the Roman Catholic Church ,  he defended himself by saying that he considers himself a believer in God first and is not a follower of any religion.

In a 2015 interview, he said: “I am not a person who believes much in religious rituals. However, I believe in God, and in Jesus Christ. I believe in His Word and I believe in His Word in the Bible . “I know that God does not reject anyone because of their origins.”

Visit Palestine [ edit ]

Buqayla made an official visit to Israel in February 2018 , at the invitation of the Federation of Israeli Municipalities, and held several meetings with the mayors of Israeli municipalities, especially Tel Aviv and occupied Jerusalem, and participated in Jewish rituals at the Buraq Wall and Mount Herzl in Jerusalem.
