Sheikh Taher Abd al-Salam al-Tabari was born in the city of Tiberias in 1895. He finished his studies in its princely school, and studied under Sheikh Suleiman al-Aboudi. Then he devoted himself to religious sciences and joined Al-Azhar University, where he studied Islamic law and sciences. After his graduation, he went to Istanbul, where he joined its university and completed the study of Sharia. Islam and the judiciary.
Sheikh Taher returned to Tiberias in 1914, and was elected as mufti there, succeeding his father, Sheikh Abd al-Salam al-Tabari. During the Faisal era, he was elected a member of the “Syrian Congress,” which declared the independence of Syria and pledged allegiance to Prince Faisal as king of Syria in 1920.
In the year 1930, Sheikh Taher was appointed a Sharia judge in the district of Acre, then a Sharia judge in Nazareth, and he was always the representative of Tiberias in the National Movement and its conferences.
After the occupation of Palestine in 1948, Sheikh Taher remained in Palestine, fighting the Zionist occupation and challenging its terrorism. He was known for his firm positions in the face of the usurpers. It is worth mentioning that Sheikh Al-Tabari lost his son (Khair) when he was martyred in 1948, and he was at the forefront of the mujahideen who confronted the Zionist gangs.
Sheikh Taher al-Tabari was a writer, a gentle poet, and an articulate orator, and he had a collection of manuscripts of poetry.
He died in March 1959 in Nazareth.
