Najih Daoud Bakirat "Abu Malik" is a Palestinian Jerusalemite imam and Islamic preacher . He holds the position of Deputy Director General of Islamic Endowments in Jerusalem and President of Al-Aqsa Academy for Science and Heritage. He was also Director of the Al-Aqsa Mosque Directorate. 

His life

Najeh Bakirat was born in the village of Sur Baher, southeast of Jerusalem, on June 27, 1958.  He received his primary and preparatory school education in the schools of Sur Baher, and his secondary education at the Islamic Orphanage School in Jerusalem. In 1976, he joined the Sharia Institute at Al-Aqsa Mosque and obtained a diploma in Islamic Sharia in 1978. 

He obtained a BA in Islamic Sharia from the Faculty of Da'wa and Fundamentals of Religion in Jerusalem, affiliated with Al-Quds University, in 1996, and later obtained a MA after his thesis on the mosques of Jaffa , then obtained a PhD in the history of Jerusalem from the University of Ez-Zitouna, Tunisia . 

Since 2001, he has been banned 23 times and detained 13 times.  In November 2020, the occupation police banned Bakirat from entering Al-Aqsa Mosque for six months.

On December 8, 2023, during the Israeli war on the Gaza Strip , Bakirat was arrested from the village of Dar Salah in the Bethlehem Governorate , his new place of residence after being deported from Jerusalem in July 2023, on charges of belonging to a terrorist organization and influencing the Jerusalemite community. An Israeli court extended his detention for 5 days.
