Information

Husni Muhammad Al-Attar was born in the Rafah camp in the southern Gaza Strip on June 11, 1956, to a Palestinian refugee family whose origins trace back to the depopulated village of Yibna in the occupied Gaza district. He is married and has seven children. He studied the basic stage at the “A” Elementary School and the “B” Preparatory School affiliated with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), and studied the secondary stage at Al-Aqsa Sharia High School in the courtyards of Al-Aqsa Mosque in the occupied city of Jerusalem, and obtained the general secondary certificate from it in 1974. He obtained a bachelor’s degree in creed and philosophy from the Faculty of Fundamentals of Religion at Al-Azhar University in Cairo in 1980, a bachelor’s degree in Hadith from the Faculty of Fundamentals of Religion at the Islamic University in Gaza in 1984, and a master’s degree in Islamic creed and contemporary doctrines from the same university in 2014. He worked as a teacher in Libya between (1984-1996), then as a government teacher in the Gaza Strip between (1996-2016), and as a lecturer at the College of Da’wah and Human Sciences in Rafah between (1999-2016).
Al-Attar became involved in advocacy activities and was a preacher in a number of mosques. He is a member of a number of committees, associations, forums, unions and societies, including: the Community Accountability Committee in Rafah, the Palestinian Writers Union, the Palestinian Writers and Authors Association in the Gaza Strip, the Educational Forum, and the Companions Association in Gaza City.

Al-Attar believes the Oslo Accords were a deception perpetrated on the Palestinian leadership, and that their harm equals or even surpasses that of the Nakba. He sees no positive aspect to the agreement other than the jobs it provided for Palestinians. He considers national relations to be outwardly positive, but believes there is conflict between different factions, with no one accepting the other. He believes Palestinian organizations are experiencing a profound ideological crisis. He maintains that the Palestinian people have the full right to armed resistance and advocates for parallel political resistance, but with the military aspect taking precedence, because the occupation respects no agreements or treaties, and only violence will work against it. He believes the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) initially had a significant role and a rich history, but the Palestinian Authority destroyed the organization and seized control of Palestinian decision-making. Even the factions that are part of the PLO are insignificant and ineffective. Anyone who clings to the PLO and claims it is effective is merely a beneficiary, using it to impose agendas that serve their own interests.
He believes the Palestinian cause has a promising future, and there are many signs pointing to this. He sees Palestinians gaining ground on multiple fronts, whether political, military, or even in international relations. He also believes the occupying state is suffering from internal turmoil and conflicts, which indicates the occupation's defeat and the rise of the Palestinian people. Herein lies the role of the Palestinian people and the importance of their unity to capitalize on this decline and advance their liberation project. He considers the current state of the Arab world to be negatively impacting the Palestinian cause, describing it as defeated and in decline. He believes this is the worst phase the Arab regimes have experienced in their stance on the Palestinian issue. However, hope remains with the Arab peoples, despite the conspiracies against them. The events at the Qatar World Cup confirm the Arab peoples' complete support for the Palestinian people, creating a sense of disappointment among the rulers and undermining their considerable efforts to distract the people from the cause. He believes that liberating Palestine from the river to the sea is the only solution, and the return of refugees to their homes from which they were displaced is their guaranteed right. He believes that the option of return for those who wish to return and compensation for those who do not should be considered. He does not believe that there is a Palestinian political system currently, but rather a dictatorship that has torn apart everything Palestinian, controlled the livelihood of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians, and imposed sanctions on them.
Al-Attar suffered under the Israeli occupation, as he was arrested more than once under administrative detention several times. The occupation kept his personal identity to force him to stay in the city of Rafah and prevent him from moving around the Gaza Strip, which affected his life, especially his studies. He has been banned from traveling outside the Gaza Strip for a long time, and the Palestinian Authority cut off his salary from 2008 until his retirement in 2016, and these years were not counted for him when calculating his retirement salary.
