Information

Naila Hisham Hassan Sabri was born in Qalqilya in 1944. She is the wife of Sheikh Akrama Sabri, the preacher of Al-Aqsa Mosque and head of the Supreme Islamic Council in Jerusalem, and she has three sons and two daughters.
She studied the primary stage in Qalqilya schools, and the secondary stage in the Aisha School in Nablus, and obtained her high school diploma from it in 1962. She worked as a teacher of Islamic education in the schools of Riyadh city in Saudi Arabia between the years (1962-1965).
She was active in Islamic outreach in Jerusalem for several years and was among the first female preachers in Palestine after the June 1967 defeat. At that time, she focused on encouraging Palestinian women to adhere to Islamic dress. She held several courses on Quranic exegesis at the Al-Aqsa Mosque and in her home, and was a regular presence at the mosque. She also established a program to train female preachers. Since 1990, she has lectured on Islam and its contemporary issues in numerous Arab and foreign countries, including the Gulf States, Morocco, Egypt, Yemen, Brazil, Romania, South Africa, Italy, India, South Korea, the United States, Britain, Switzerland, Turkey, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Belgium, Norway, France, Sweden, Denmark, Canada, and Germany.  
She was the president of the Jerusalem-based Women of Islam Association for thirty years. She is also a member of the Red Crescent Society in Jerusalem, a member of the Palestinian Writers Union, and a member of the Union of Voluntary Women’s Associations in Palestine.
She had poetic and literary contributions, and wrote in local and Arab newspapers and magazines. She provided some Arab radio stations with some religious texts, including Amman Radio between the years (1980-1990). She published a number of books, including: A Glimpse in the Darkness (1972), Planets of Women (1978), I Will Remain Palestinian (1979), This Is My Nation (1980), The Rites of Hajj (1995), The One Who Sees by the Light of the Qur’an (11 vols., 1997), The Intifada and Other Stories (a collection of short stories), Dewy Thoughts and Jerusalemite Ideas (2014), My Journey in Hajj and Umrah (2014), In the Shade of a Verse (2017), Encyclopedia of Divine Names and Their Meanings in the Holy Qur’an (vol. 6, 2018), and The Best Stories in the Qur’an (2020).
