Hassan Munir Abu Zaiter (November 14, 1994 – November 14, 2023) is a Palestinian athlete , born in Jabalia camp north of Gaza City . He was a physical education teacher and a player for Al-Sadaka Club and the Palestinian national volleyball team . He won the Jawal Volleyball League champion in 2019 in the Gaza Strip.
He was assassinated on November 14, 2023, during an Israeli Air Force bombing of his home in the Jabalia camp in the Gaza Strip in response to Operation Flood of Al-Aqsa .
Social media was abuzz with the news of his martyrdom and that of his friend Ibrahim. One of them wrote: “Friend Hassan Zaiter joins his colleague and friend, the martyr Ibrahim Qusay’ah . Glory be to God, it is as if we had a covenant to be together. May God have mercy on you, Ibrahim, and have mercy on you, Hassan.”
The Palestinian Federation mourned him in a statement: “With great sadness, pride and honor, the Palestinian Volleyball Federation and the game’s family in the homeland mourn the martyrs of the national team and the Friendship Club, Hassan Zaiter and Ibrahim Qasi’a, who were martyred as a result of the barbaric bombing of the Jabalia camp in the Gaza Strip.”
