Jamal Abdul Raouf Daoud Arafat al-Qudwa al-Husseini (1919-1989) was a Palestinian politician who was born in Jerusalem and died in Saudi Arabia . He was buried in al-Baqi' in Medina . His full name is Jamal Abdul Raouf Daoud Arafat al-Qudwa al-Husseini, and he is the older brother of President Yasser Arafat . The al-Husseini family was most settled in the cities of Jerusalem and Gaza, and continued to exist in Jerusalem throughout the Ottoman era . The freedom fighter Jamal Abdul Raouf witnessed the Palestinian cause from its beginning.
His academic life
Gamal received his primary and secondary education in Cairo . He joined the Faculty of Arts, Department of Journalism, Cairo University (then called King Fuad I University). Gamal also volunteered in the Civil Defense in Cairo during World War II in 1939, where he was responsible for distributing masks to residents for fear of inhaling poison gas from bombs dropped by German and Italian planes.
His professional life
Jamal was appointed Secretary General of the All-Palestine Government headed by Ahmed Hilmi Pasha Abdel Baqi in 1948, which was later dissolved by the Arab League in 1952, and kept its president Ahmed Hilmi and his secretary Jamal Arafat, which had the authority to issue passports in the name of the All-Palestine Government.
Jamal Arafat worked as a journalist and became involved in politics, where he held the position of Secretary-General of the League of Arab and Islamic Peoples' Struggle, based in Cairo . He had distinguished friendships with many political leaders and religious figures, especially the late presidents Ahmed Ben Bella and Habib Bourguiba , and the late Sheikh of Al-Azhar, Abdullah Daraz . He also had a friendship with the late former president, Major General Mohamed Naguib .
Jamal Arafat served as a representative of the Arab Higher Committee in Algeria in 1962, where he had a friendly relationship with the leaders of the Algerian revolution while they were in Cairo. In the 1970s, Jamal Arafat (Abu Raouf) served as head of the Palestinian Red Crescent branch in Cairo, in addition to supervising the residences of Palestinian female students studying at Egyptian universities abroad, as he was considered a father to them abroad. Abu Raouf was appointed as the Palestinian ambassador to Khartoum between 1983-1986, and he also served as the Palestinian ambassador to Sana'a from 1986 until his death on February 9, 1989, where he was the dean of Arab ambassadors at the time.

Medals
President Mahmoud Abbas awarded Jamal Abdel Raouf Arafat the Star of Honor Medal of the highest degree. His son Raouf received the medal at the President’s residence in the Egyptian capital, Cairo , in the presence of: Secretary-General of the Presidency Tayeb Abdel Rahim , Minister of Foreign Affairs Riyad al-Maliki , Minister of Endowments and Religious Affairs Mahmoud al-Habbash , Presidential Spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh , and Diplomatic Advisor to the President Majdi al-Khalidi .
