Jamal Saber Khaswan was born in the Shuja'iyya neighborhood in Gaza City on October 23, 1970. He is married and has three sons and two daughters. He studied primary and secondary school in the schools of the Gaza Strip, and obtained a bachelor's degree in dentistry from Russia in the late 1990s, then a master's degree and a doctorate in dental implants. He opened a specialized dental center in Gaza City, and became Chairman of the Board of Directors of Al-Wafa Hospital for Medical Rehabilitation and Specialized Surgeries between (2016-2023).
Khaswan was involved in social and union activities, and led a number of programs concerned with providing free medical care to the poor and low-income people, so people called him the doctor of the poor and the humane doctor. He supervised the activities of Al-Wafa Hospital, such as the International Day of Older Persons event, and the Hekaytna exhibition that he held in 2017, in addition to organizing the annual Iftar in the holy month of Ramadan at the hospital. He also cooperated with the Khan Yunis Municipality during his presidency of the Dentists Syndicate within the framework of strengthening bilateral relations between the Syndicate and the municipality, and participated in conferences to support and assist dentists affected by wars, including the conference he organized in 2020. He was also known for his care for poor university students and providing them with university fees, and he assumed the chairmanship of the board of directors of the Al-Wafa Charitable Society and its affiliated nursing home.
Khaswan, his wife and son were killed when the occupation forces bombed his apartment in the International Tower in Gaza City on the morning of May 9, 2023, as part of the military operation carried out by the occupation army on the Gaza Strip, which was called “Operation Protective Edge.” Khaswan’s house is adjacent to the apartment of Tariq Izz al-Din, a leader in the Islamic Jihad movement, who was also assassinated by the occupation forces at the same time, when the occupation forces bombed his apartment.
