Mr. Ismail M. Halahleh, MSc., is a Clinical Nutrition Consultant and the current Head of the Medical Professions Department at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Palestine Polytechnic University (PPU), Hebron. He also serves as the elected President of the Palestinian Dietitians Syndicate, a position he has held since 2013. With over three decades of professional experience, Mr. Halahleh has significantly contributed to the fields of clinical nutrition, higher education, and national public health development in Palestine.
He received his Master of Science degree in Nutrition Science from the University of Jordan in 1992. Prior to that, he completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Nutrition and Food Technology (1989–1990), and earned a Bachelor of Science in Public Health with a specialization in Nutrition from the Faculty of Medicine at Jordan University of Science and Technology in 1988. He graduated high school in the scientific stream with an average of 88.5%.
Mr. Halahleh began his professional career as a clinical dietitian at Makassed Hospital in Jerusalem. Over time, he was promoted to Head of the Nutrition and Dietetics Department, where he supervised clinical nutrition services, led quality assurance processes, and served as a clinical instructor for students from multiple Palestinian universities. His responsibilities included managing food services, applying ISO 9001 quality systems, and serving on internal audit and JCI accreditation committees.
In academia, Mr. Halahleh has served as a part-time instructor at various institutions, including Al-Quds University, Birzeit University, Hebron University, and Palestine Polytechnic University, where he currently holds a full-time faculty position. He has taught clinical and public health nutrition, supervised practical training, and contributed to curriculum development.
Throughout his career, Mr. Halahleh has worked as a consultant for numerous national and international health organizations. These include the World Health Organization (WHO), the Palestinian Health Sector Reform and Development (Flagship) Project, and the Ministry of Health. He contributed to the development of the National Nutrition Profession Law, Palestinian dietary guidelines, and school cafeteria regulations. He also provided expert consultation for the development of academic nutrition programs and the evaluation of higher education projects under the World Bank’s Quality Improvement Fund (QIF).
In addition to his teaching and consulting work, Mr. Halahleh has participated in over 50 scientific conferences across Palestine and the Arab world. He is known for his leadership in the nutrition sector, both in practice and policy, and has played a central role in the professional development of Palestinian dietitians and healthcare providers.
Mr. Halahleh is fluent in Arabic and English and possesses strong skills in quality management, strategic planning, academic instruction, and clinical care. His work is grounded in evidence-based nutrition practice, and he has a proven track record in advancing healthcare standards in Palestine.
