Information

Nada Arsan Mustafa Tuweir was born in Tulkarm on March 27, 1961. Her family originates from the Palestinian village of Sabbarin, which was depopulated in 1948. She is married and has one son. She attended UNRWA primary schools in Tulkarm, then Al-Adawiya and Al-Asma'i schools. She graduated from Jamal Abdel Nasser High School in 1978 and earned a bachelor's degree in Arabic language and psychology from Birzeit University in 1984. She worked for three years at the Arab Orphan Society in Ramallah, and later at the Union of Palestinian Women's Action Committees.
Tuweir was influenced by her family's participation in the national struggle and became involved in student activities during her university studies. She was a member of the student council and joined the Democratic Front in 1980. She co-founded the Palestinian Women's Action Union in Tulkarm Governorate, becoming its president in the West Bank. She also headed the General Union of Palestinian Women in Tulkarm Governorate, served on the administrative board of the Women's Affairs Technical Committee, headed the Tulkarm branch of the Al-Najda Women's Association, and was the financial officer of the Social Solidarity Fund in Tulkarm Governorate. She was a member of the "Nationalists to End the Division" committee, a member of the Central Committee for Boycotting Israeli Goods, a member of the Return Committees in Tulkarm Camp, and a member of the "Open Meetings" committee, which focuses on democracy and good governance. She was arrested by the Israeli occupation forces for two months in 1982 for distributing anti-occupation leaflets. She assumed leadership positions in the Democratic Front, becoming a member of the Front’s Central Committee in 1990, and then a member of the Front’s Political Bureau in 2018. She ran for the legislative elections in 2006. The occupation imposed house arrest on her for six months in 1992, raided her home several times, and prevented her from traveling for long periods.
Tuwair believes in international laws and conventions that give women their full rights within a democratic civil society, calling for a fair distribution of wealth and harnessing the energies of young people.
Tuweir believes that developments in Syria and Trump's policies are pushing towards creating a balance in international politics, which leads to the existence of a global axis against imperialism, and makes the international community less biased towards the occupation and works in the interest of the Palestinians. Tuweir opposed the Oslo Accords, especially in its security and economic aspects and its international framework, and calls for ending the Palestinian division in order to thwart the opportunity for the occupation, which is manipulating the issue of the absence of a unified leadership for the Palestinian people with which it can negotiate. She calls for holding local, legislative, presidential and National Council elections, in order to rebuild the Palestinian house and prepare for the upcoming challenges, and calls for including all political orientations in the PLO within the organization's political program. She believes that any people under occupation has the right to use all possible forms of struggle, while she sees popular resistance as the possible strategic struggle.
