Mrs. La’iqa Omar Al-Masri was born in 1900 to parents from the city of Jaffa. Her family then moved to live in Nablus, and she received her education in the city of Nablus with girls of her generation in the Old City School. Her teacher was of Turkish origin, so La’iqa mastered the Turkish language. She married the merchant Omar Munib Al-Masri, and gave birth to four sons and two daughters. She was known for her intelligence, piety, and good deeds. She joined prominent women in the city to form a charitable society to help the needy in 1921, and the head of this women’s group was Miss Maryam Hashim.
Mrs. Laika attended the women's conference held in Cairo in 1949, where she appealed to King Farouk to intervene and save Palestine and the Palestinian people. She then participated in the Conference of Arab Women's Federations in Beirut, joining her colleagues, Hajja Andalib al-Amd and Rushda al-Masri, in their struggle to establish a permanent headquarters for the association in 1952. They traveled throughout the Arab world seeking funding under extremely difficult and complex circumstances. She continued her efforts until she witnessed the realization of the dream she and her companion, Hajja Andalib al-Amd, had long cherished: the construction of the hospital, a project conceived in 1948. Mrs. Laika lived to see it become a reality before her passing.
