Sufian Abdul Rahman Shukri Sultan is a Palestinian agricultural engineer and lecturer , holding a PhD in agricultural engineering . He served as Minister of Agriculture in the seventeenth Palestinian government after the first amendment from July 31, 2015, until April 13, 2019.
Early life and education
Sufyan Sultan was born in the city of Hebron in the southern West Bank , and received his school education there until graduating in 1968. He then joined Ain Shams University in Cairo , from which he obtained bachelor ’s , master’s , and doctoral degrees in agricultural engineering .
Positions
Sufian Sultan worked as a lecturer at An-Najah National University , and was appointed Head of the Department of Agricultural Sciences in 1984. Later, in 1989, he was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor at the university.
He worked for a year as a visiting professor at the University of California , Davis .
He joined Hebron University in 1990, where he was an associate professor and dean of the Faculty of Agriculture.
He participated in the Palestinian negotiating delegation , specializing in environmental affairs.
He was appointed advisor to Palestinian President Yasser Arafat on environmental affairs.
He served as Chairman of the Palestinian Environment Authority in 1996.
He served as the Palestinian Minister of Agriculture after the first ministerial reshuffle in the Palestinian National Consensus Government in the period 2015-2019.
