Dhiab al-Ali, nicknamed Abu al-Fath (born in 1943 in the village of Harawi - died on February 13, 2018) was a soldier and a Palestinian refugee with the rank of Major General. He was the commander of the Palestinian National Security Forces from 2007-2011.



Dhiab Muhammad Mustafa al-Ali was born in the village of Harawi to a family from Arab al-Hamdun, near the city of Safed, in 1943. His family immigrated to Lebanon after the Nakba War in 1948, and lived in al-Qasimiya camp near Tyre, Lebanon.

He joined the Fatah movement in 1965, held advanced positions in the Storm Forces, and was a company commander in the central sector in southern Lebanon, and an officer in the operations of the Al-Jarmak Brigade in 1978. He was arrested for several years in Syrian prisons. After the Oslo Accords, he returned to the West Bank and participated in the establishment of a number of Palestinian security services. He lived in the town of Burqin in the Jenin governorate.


On January 1, 2007, he was appointed commander of the Palestinian National Security Forces, and continued until the date of his appointment as a military advisor to the President of the Palestinian National Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, on December 27, 2011.


Death and burial

Al-Ali died on February 13, 2018, and a military funeral was held for him at the Martyr Dr. Khalil Suleiman Governmental Hospital in Jenin, and he was buried in the town of Burqin, west of Jenin Governorate.

On December 26, 2011, the President of the Palestinian Authority, Mahmoud Abbas, awarded Diab Al-Ali with the Military Star of Jerusalem Medal.
