Information

Ghaleb Majadleh (Hebrew: ראלב מג'אדלה) is the first Arab Muslim minister in an Israeli government. He was appointed on January 28, 2007 as Minister without Portfolio and then assumed the position of Minister of Science, Culture and Sports. He has been a member of the Israeli Knesset since 2004. He refused to sing the Israeli national anthem when he took over the ministry because the anthem was written for Jews only and sings of the Jewish spirit.

January 10, 2012 Arab MP Ghaleb Majadleh was criticizing a meeting of a committee concerned with the education sector that discussed reprimanding an Arab school principal who allowed his students to attend a human rights march. But Representative Anastasia Michaeli of the "Israel Our Home" party interrupted him by saying, "You are inciting against the state." There was no argument but that he responded by saying: "Shut up." After this response, Michaeli gathered her things and seemed to be on her way to leave, but not before pouring some water into a plastic cup that she threw to Mujadala [1]. As a result, the Knesset Ethics Committee decided to remove Michaeli from her work in the Knesset for a month. Michaeli showed a letter apologizing for what she had done.

Majadleh has been a member of the Knesset since 2004 for the Israeli Labor Party and was at the bottom of the party's list in the February 2009 elections and therefore lost his seat. Majadleh was a member of several parliamentary committees: Education, Culture and Sports; work, welfare and health; Science and Technology; Reviews of the public and foreign workers. Majadla chaired the Interior and Environment Committee. In addition, Majadleh belongs to the lobby for social and environmental affairs.

He returned to the Knesset in 2010, and assumed the position of Deputy Speaker of the Knesset shortly after entering.

In addition, Ghaleb Majadele is a member of the State Control Committee and a member of the Knesset Finance Committee.

his ministry

He was appointed as a minister without portfolio on January 28, 2007, on the nomination of the leader of the Israeli Labor Party, Defense Minister Amir Peretz, and two weeks later he was appointed to the position of Minister of Culture, Science and Sports in the Israeli government, succeeding Ofir Pines Paz.

His quotes

“I do not understand how a sane and enlightened Jew would allow himself to ask a Muslim who has his own culture and language to sing a hymn written for Jews only.”

“I let you know that I am a minister for a year, two, or ten, but I was born a Muslim and I will die a Muslim, and I advise you when you ask me questions of a religious nature that between my religion and the considerations of being a minister, my loyalty to my religion and my Arab nationalism will overshadow the considerations of being a minister.” Addressing another member of the kinesit.

“The roots of the Israeli Arabs were planted before the establishment of the state. They are citizens of this country and they have rights. Their residency and citizenship are not a matter for discussion,” commenting on statements by Tzipi Livni, who hinted that a future Palestinian state might be a solution for the Arabs of Israel.
