Thabet Ahmed Abdullah Thabet (born on December 20, 1950 - assassinated on December 31, 2000) was a Palestinian politician, diplomat, and leader from the city of Tulkarm. He was one of the leaders of the Fatah movement. He was a political leader of the organization faction of the Fatah movement, the backbone of the Palestinian Authority, and a close associate of President Yasser Arafat. And secretary of the Fatah movement in Tulkarem. Israel assassinated him in the morning in front of his house in the city of Tulkarm, coinciding with the anniversary of the launch of the Fatah movement.

his working life
He obtained his high school diploma from Al Fadhiliya School in Tulkarm in 1968, then went to Iraq, where he joined the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Baghdad. During his university studies there, he joined the Fatah movement in Iraq since 1968, and later became president of the General Union of Palestinian Students, Iraq branch.

After graduating, he returned to Tulkarem, and upon his return, the Israeli authorities arrested him for six months, and imposed house arrest on him for three years. He opened a dental clinic for him in the city of Tulkarm, and he was elected president of the Palestinian Dental Association.

In 1991, he was appointed as the representative of the Palestine Liberation Organization at the Madrid Peace Talks. He was also Director General of the Palestinian Ministry of Health, and Secretary of the Fatah Movement in Tulkarm.

Commemorating and honoring him
In honor of Thabet Thabet, immediately after his assassination, the Fatah movement established the Thabet Thabet Military Brigades, and the Palestinian National Authority named the governmental hospital in Tulkarm after him, so that the name of the hospital became “Martyr Dr. Thabet Thabet Governmental Hospital.” One of the city’s important squares was also named after him. And a monument was erected for him in the field, which included his picture.
