Ghassan Al-Khatib (born in 1954) is a Palestinian politician. He was born in Nablus in the West Bank and is a member of the Palestinian People's Party. Al-Khatib is married and has three children. He was also a member of the Madrid Peace Delegation in 1991 and participated in the Washington negotiations from 1991 to 1993. He was appointed Minister of Labor of the Palestinian National Authority in 2002 and then Minister of Planning and Administrative Development from 2005 to 2006. He served as Director of the Government Media Center.

The biography

Ghassan Al-Khatib is a lecturer in contemporary Arab studies and international studies at Birzeit University. He served as Director of the Government Media Center from 2009-2012, Palestinian Minister of Labor from 2002-2004, and Minister of Planning from 200-2006. Al-Khatib was Vice President of Community Outreach from 2006-2009 and Vice President of Advancement from 2012-2016 at Birzeit University. He was the founder and director of the Jerusalem Center for Media and Communication, which specializes in research, opinion polls, and media activities. He was also a member of the Palestinian delegation to the 1991 Madrid Middle East Peace Conference and the ensuing Israeli-Palestinian bilateral negotiations in Washington from 1991 to 1993. Al-Khatib co-founded and co-directs bitterlemons.org, a Palestinian-Israeli political magazine. He was a member of the Joint Working Group on Israeli-Palestinian Relations at the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs at Harvard University in the United States. Al-Khatib holds a PhD in Middle East Politics from Durham University and is the author of Palestinian Politics and the Middle East Peace Process: Consensus and Competition in the Palestinian Negotiating Team.
