Ibrahim Muhammad Mahmoud Khreisha ( March 26, 1956 in Tulkarm - ) is a Palestinian politician , diplomat , and ambassador . He holds the position of Permanent Representative of Palestine to the United Nations in Geneva and to all international organizations and Ambassador of Palestine to Switzerland . He has held the position of Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Palestine .
Early life and education
Ibrahim Muhammad Mahmoud Khreisha was born in the city of Tulkarm in the West Bank on March 26 , 1956. He received his education in the schools of his city, Tulkarm , and then obtained a degree in medicine from the University of Belgrade in the Republic of Serbia . He also obtained a diploma in international law from the International Center for Human Rights in Strasbourg .
Political and diplomatic life
In 1990, he was elected President of the General Union of Palestinian Students , and assumed the presidency of the Department of Final Status Negotiations in the Palestine Liberation Organization in 1995 , and in 1997 he was elected a member of both the Central Council of the Palestine Liberation Organization and the Revolutionary Council of the Fatah Movement .
In 2003, he became Director General of the Popular Organizations Department by decision of Palestinian President Yasser Arafat , then official for international organizations in the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2004 , and in 2005 he became Ambassador in the Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs by decision issued by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas .
He became Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Palestine (Undersecretary) from 2005 to 2010 , and served as the Palestinian Special Envoy to the Presidency of the European Union , and on October 3, 2008, he assumed the position of Permanent Representative of Palestine to the United Nations in Geneva and the position of Permanent Representative of Palestine to all international organizations, including the Human Rights Council .
On April 15, 2010, he assumed the position of Palestinian Ambassador to Switzerland , and on July 1, 2010 , President Mahmoud Abbas selected him to form the Dialogue Committee with the Vatican , with the aim of drafting cooperation agreements between the Palestine Liberation Organization and the Vatican .
Khreisha is a member of the Palestinian Coalition for Peace, and his name has been nominated several times to assume the Palestinian Foreign Ministry portfolio in a number of Palestinian governments; however, he has refused.
Khreisha has extensive diplomatic experience, and has completed a number of courses, including a course in environment and development in 1992 , and courses in international law in France and Switzerland in 1993.
