Nabil Mahmoud Yousef Amro (born September 6, 1947 in Hebron) is a politician and former minister in the Palestinian Authority, advisor to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas for cultural and media affairs, and a member of the Palestinian Writers and Journalists Union .

His education

Nabil Amro studied at Damascus University and obtained a Bachelor of Laws degree. He also received an honorary doctorate from the International Informatics Academy.

Practical life

He worked as an official for Palestinian popular organizations in Syria between 1969 and 1971 .
Between 1973 and 1988, he was the general manager of the Voice of Palestine radio stations affiliated with the Palestine Liberation Organization .
He was appointed, starting in 1988, as the organization's representative in the former Soviet Union , before serving as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the same country until 1993.
In 1995, he founded Al-Hayat Al-Jadida newspaper .
He was elected as a member of the Palestinian Legislative Council after the 1996 Palestinian general elections , where he received 23,269 votes in the Hebron Governorate district, representing the Fatah movement . 
He assumed the portfolio of Minister of Parliamentary Affairs in Yasser Arafat's third government in 1998. 
He assumed the Ministry of Information portfolio in Mahmoud Abbas's government in 2003. 
He became a member of the Negotiating Committee in 2005. 
He was an advisor to Palestinian President Yasser Arafat, and later an advisor to President Mahmoud Abbas.
He was the Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Egypt and continued until 2009.

Attempted assassination

He was the victim of a failed assassination attempt in 2004 that nearly cost him his life, and doctors were forced to amputate his right leg as a result. 

His writings

Nabil Amr wrote many political and intellectual articles, and authored two books:

"Days of Love and Siege" is about the work of the Palestinian radio during the Great Battle of Beirut in 1982.
"A Thousand Days in Moscow" is about the Middle Eastern policy of the Soviet Union, the events of the collapse of the superpower, and the Gulf War.
