Ma'an Rashid Khalil Erekat (born October 12, 1960 in Jericho ) is a diplomat and politician from the State of Palestine . 

Early life and education

Erekat was born on October 12, 1960, in Jericho . He studied finance at Arizona State University, earning a bachelor's degree in 1983 , and in 1987, he earned a master's degree in business administration from Western International University, part of the Apollo Education Group . He took a course in good governance at Harvard University 's John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2001. 

political life

Erekat served as spokesman for Orient House from 1993 to 1998, the headquarters of the Palestine Liberation Organization in eastern Jerusalem . In 1998, he moved to work for the Palestinian National Authority in the Negotiations Affairs Department, a position he held until March 2008.  In 2008-2009 , he served as general coordinator of the Negotiations Affairs Department . 

On April 18, 2009, the Palestinian President appointed him head of the Palestine Liberation Organization delegation to the United States, a position he held until March 2017.  He was appointed Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Britain , but Britain refused to grant him a diplomatic visa as Ambassador of the State of Palestine. 

On August 26, 2020, Erekat was retired.
