Jibrin Elias Abed al-Bakri (Abu Saleh; born January 8, 1961 in Hebron ) is a Palestinian politician and military officer and a member of the Fatah movement and its Revolutionary Council . He was governor of Nablus Governorate between 2009 and 2014, of Bethlehem Governorate between 2014 and 2018, and of Hebron Governorate between 2018 and 2023.
Early life and education
Jibreen Elias Abed Al-Bakri was born in Hebron on January 8, 1961, to a Palestinian Muslim family . He holds a BA in English, Education, and Psychology from Hebron University .
Practical life
Al-Bakri rose through the ranks, becoming the head of the Student Union Council from 1983 to 1984 while studying at Hebron University .
Israel arrested Al-Bakri about 17 times, and he spent about 7 years in its prisons.
After the establishment of the Palestinian National Authority in 1994, he was appointed director of the Palestinian Preventive Security Directorate in the Hebron Governorate , a position he held for approximately six years. He then became director of central operations for the Preventive Security Service , and later assistant director-general of the Preventive Security Service for planning affairs in the West Bank . In 2008, he retired from Preventive Security.
After the Sixth General Conference of Fatah was held in August 2009, he obtained membership in the Palestinian Revolutionary Council and became a member of it.
On December 3, 2009, he was appointed governor of Nablus Governorate . On May 31, 2014, he was transferred to Bethlehem Governorate and appointed its governor.
On March 5 , 2020, he was elected as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Palestine Technical University "Khadouri" in Tulkarm by a decision issued by Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, and continued until January 15 , 2023.
As of October 1, 2018, he was appointed Governor of Hebron Governorate . On August 10, 2023, President Mahmoud Abbas referred him for retirement.

On August 17, 2023, President Mahmoud Abbas awarded him the Star of Merit of the State of Palestine Order .
