Nasri Khalil Salim Abu Jish (Abu Khalil; born April 20, 1967 in Beit Dajan ) is a Palestinian dentist , politician , diplomat, and lecturer . He holds a PhD in development studies and political science. He served as Minister of Labor in the government of Mohammad Shtayyeh between 2019 and 2024. He is a member of the Palestinian National Council for the Palestinian People's Party . Since August 2024, he has served as Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Bulgaria.
Early life and education
Nasri Khalil Salim Abu Jish was born in the village of Beit Dajan in the West Bank on April 20, 1967. He received his primary and preparatory education in the village schools, and his secondary education at the Qadri Touqan School in Nablus . He then began his university education in Sofia , where he obtained a bachelor's degree in dentistry . He later obtained a diploma in protocol from Jakarta . Nasri Abu Jish completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Dar es Salaam in Tanzania , where he obtained a master's degree in international relations , and a doctorate in development studies and political science from the universities of Dar es Salaam and Harare .
Positions
Nasri Abu Jish has progressed in diplomatic and political life, having held the positions of Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Seychelles , Mauritius , Tanzania , Ethiopia , Kenya , and Uganda .
On April 13, 2019, Abu Jish was sworn in before Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas as Minister of Labor in the government of Mohammad Shtayyeh , representing the Palestinian People's Party, which is participating in the government. He continued in his position until March 31, 2024.
On July 11, 2021, the Palestinian People's Party announced the termination of Nasri Abu Jish's membership in it, after he refused to implement the party's decision to leave the government of Mohammad Shtayyeh, following the killing of activist Nizar Banat by Palestinian security forces on June 24, 2021, and the government's handling of the crisis that followed. Abu Jish justified his remaining in the government by the fact that its head, Shtayyeh, rejected his resignation.
On August 23, 2024, he presented his credentials as Ambassador of the State of Palestine to Bulgaria to Bulgarian Deputy Foreign Minister Ivan Kondov. On October 7, 2024, he presented his credentials to Bulgarian President Rumen Radev .
