Iyad Abdullah Abu Moghli is a Jordanian doctor and politician of Palestinian origin from the city of Nablus. He was born and raised in Amman. He holds a PhD in Biochemical Engineering from the University of Bath and an Executive Certificate from the Development Academy affiliated with Johns Hopkins University with distinction.
He currently serves as the Director and Regional Representative of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) for West Asia, with the rank of Regional Ambassador. He is a member of the High Advisory Committee of the Zayed International Prize for the Environment and a member of the Supreme Committee of the Abu Dhabi International Film Festival.
Dr. Abu Moghli has held several positions within the United Nations, including Director of Innovation and Knowledge for the Arab Region at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and Director of Environment and Energy Practices in New York for UNDP. He has over 28 years of experience in environment and sustainable development, serving as a consultant with the United Nations for more than 16 years in Egypt, Lebanon, and Jordan. He also previously served as Vice President of an environmental consulting company and as a researcher at the University of Jordan.
