Elias Choufani (1932 - 26 January 2013) is a Palestinian researcher, historian, thinker and academic. In May 1980 he was elected a member of the Fatah Revolutionary Council. He is the author of a number of historical, political and intellectual works.

Elias Shukri Shofani was born in the village of Mi'iliya in the Upper Galilee in 1932, to a dignitary who took over the local leadership during the 1936 revolution. He attended secondary school in Acre and graduated in 1947, then obtained a diploma from the Teachers' Institute in Jaffa in 1949, and worked as a school teacher for two years. Ten years (1949 - 1959), then he obtained a diploma from an institution at Tel Aviv University in 1955, and joined the Faculty of Oriental Studies at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, from which he obtained a bachelor's degree in 1962, after which he completed his studies, where he obtained a master's degree in Oriental Studies from Princeton University in the United States in 1965, and obtained a doctorate in modern Islamic studies and the Near East from the same university in 1968.

He worked as an assistant professor at Georgetown University and the University of Maryland from 1967 to 1973, and was director of the Islamic Studies and Research Department at the Institute for Palestine Studies in Beirut from 1973 to 1982. He also worked in Damascus as a researcher on issues related to Palestinian history in 1982.

He joined the Palestinian resistance movement and revolution and the Palestinian national and political action within the framework of the Fatah movement, and was elected on May 22 (May) 1980 as a member of the Revolutionary Council of the Fatah Movement at the movement's fourth conference, which was held in Damascus. In 1983, after leaving Beirut, he led the Fatah Intifada movement, which split from the Fatah movement, and then left political work and devoted himself to writing, writing and historical research.

Elias died in Damascus on January 26, 2013 AD, corresponding to Rabi’ al-Awwal 15, 1434 AH, at the age of 81, due to a severe heart attack.
