Basil Amin Akel (1938, Jaffa - December 2, 2020, Beirut), known as Abu Al-Amin, is a Palestinian politician and intellectual, who was a member of the Palestinian National and Central Councils, and a member of the Board of Trustees of the Institute for Palestine Studies. Basil Akl was born in Jaffa in 1938 AD. He received his BA in political science from the American University in Cairo in 1959, and his MA in political science from the American University in Beirut in 1962. He worked as a consultant in the Kuwaiti Ministry of Foreign Affairs where he was responsible for the political department, and was a member of the Kuwaiti delegation to the first two Arab summits The second, he was the first representative of the Liberation Organization in Egypt from 1965 to 1966. He worked as director of the Arab League office in London in 1968, and was an advisor to President Yasser Arafat, and represented Palestine at the United Nations between 1975 and 1976, and headed the first Palestinian delegation To the UN Security Council 1975.
