Amjad Al-Shawa (April 24, 1972-) is a prominent Palestinian figure in community and institutional work. Born in Gaza City , he obtained a diploma in qualifying teachers for people with hearing disabilities in 1991, a bachelor's degree in business administration from Al- Quds Open University in 1995, and a master's degree in American studies from Al-Quds University in 2008. He worked as a teacher during the period (1992-1996) and a public relations coordinator at the Our Children's Association for the Deaf , in addition to being a part-time correspondent for the Jordanian News Agency since 1996, then he became the director of the Palestinian NGO Network in Gaza since 1999, coordinator of the international campaign to lift the siege on Gaza in 2007, Deputy Commissioner-General of the Independent Commission for Human Rights in 2023, a trainer in the field of media, advocacy and conflict transformation, and a member of the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate.
His political activity
The first and second intifadas contributed to shaping Amjad Yasser Al-Shawa’s vision of the importance of popular and institutional work, as he participated in the popular campaign to protect the Palestinian people in 2000. He was also active in the Palestinian international campaign to lift the siege on Gaza after 2007, and contributed to efforts to end the political division and respect public freedoms. He also played an important role in mediating between official bodies in Gaza and the West Bank to resolve issues related to vital files such as treatment, electricity, and medicine.
His contributions
Al-Shawa published a magazine specializing in children with disabilities in 1996. He is an administrative expert in relief programs who has participated in many international conferences and forums such as the meetings of the Arab Network for NGOs and the World Meeting Forum
