Information

Mahmoud Qassem Ahmed Abu Zulf was born in the occupied city of Jaffa on April 5, 1924. He was married and had three sons and two daughters. He completed his primary education at the Al-Maaref School in Jaffa, his secondary education in Lebanon and Egypt, and earned a bachelor's degree in media and political science from the American University of Beirut in 1948. He then attended Columbia University in the United States. He worked as a journalist for the newspaper Al-Difaa until 1953, where he was responsible for editing its foreign affairs section. In 1951, he co-founded the newspaper Al-Jihad in Jerusalem with journalists Salim Al-Sharif  and Mahmoud Yaish. Al -Jihad continued publication until 1967. When the Jordanian authorities decided to consolidate newspapers in Jordan into only two, one of which would be based in Jerusalem, Abu Zulf and his fellow journalists were forced to merge Al-Difaa and Al-Jihad to establish  Al-Quds newspaper . Its first issue was published on March 21, 1967, and Abu Zulf became its owner and editor-in-chief until his death.
Al-Quds newspaper ceased operations after the 1967 war by a decision of the occupying states. Abu Zulf made an effort to revive it, and he succeeded in doing so in 1968. For decades, he worked on developing the newspaper, appointing correspondents in more than one country around the world, and tried to expand its distribution areas. He obtained a license to distribute it in Jordan, and also tried to transform it into a major media institution, so he founded Al-Quds Al-Arabi newspaper in London.
Abu Zulf died in Jerusalem on March 28, 2005.
