Abdul Nasser Mahmoud Mustafa Qassem Al-Najjar was born in Al-Fawwar refugee camp in Hebron Governorate on February 10, 1960, to a Palestinian refugee family originally from the depopulated village of Al-Faluja in the Gaza district. He is married and has three sons and three daughters. He completed his primary and secondary education in Hebron schools, earned a bachelor's degree in commerce from the Faculty of Commerce at Birzeit University, a master's degree in international relations from the Faculty of Arts at the same university, and a doctorate in media in 2009. He worked as the managing editor of Al-Shaab newspaper, published in Jerusalem, and participated in founding Al-Ayyam newspaper in 1995, where he has since served as managing editor. He also lectured at Birzeit University and Al-Quds University/Abu Dis.
Al-Najjar became involved in union work; he was elected president of the Palestinian Journalists Syndicate in April 2012 and remained in office until his resignation in January 2016. He was a member of the Federation of Arab Journalists and the International Federation of Journalists, a member of the Executive Committee of the International Federation of Journalists, Assistant Secretary-General of the Federation of Arab Journalists, and a member of the Board of Directors of the Arab Journalism Award. He received the Federation's Shield of Arab Journalism from the Federation of Arab Journalists on June 29, 2013.
Al-Najjar used to write a weekly article in Al-Ayyam newspaper, and he presented a number of papers and interventions at academic conferences in Palestine and abroad. He published a book entitled Creative Writing for Journalism (2009).
Israeli intelligence arrested al-Najjar during the First Intifada, confiscated his press card, and prevented him from practicing his profession for a period. He contracted COVID-19 and died in Ramallah on June 23, 2021, and was buried in Hebron.
