the biography
Palestinian writer and director, born in 1970 in Nazareth. Graduated from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in English and Arabic. She worked as an art designer on Elia Suleiman's The Time That Remains and Ziad Doueiri's The Shock. She wrote and directed the short film Orange in 2009, which won the Audience Award at the Montpellier, France and the documentary Behind These Walls in 2010.
In 2016, she directed her first feature film, Personal Matters, which was nominated for the Un Certain Regard Award at the Cannes Film Festival, won the Archie Award for Best Feature at the Philadelphia Film Festival and the Montpellier Critics Award for Mediterranean Cinema. Her most recent film, Mediterranean Fever, won the Best Screenplay Award at the Cannes Film Festival in the Un Certain Regard section, in addition to many other international awards, and was nominated by the State of Palestine to represent it at the Oscars.
