Mohammad Tawfiq Al-Bajarmi is a Syrian media professional and academic of Palestinian origin from the village of Ijzim in the Haifa district. He earned a Master’s degree in African Literature in 1974, followed by a PhD in English Literature in 1980.
Al-Bajarmi taught English literature in the Department of English at the University of Damascus and previously taught English at the Higher Industrial Institute in Damascus. From 1980 until his retirement in 2000, he taught poetry, literary criticism, translation, comparative literature, and American literature at the University of Damascus.
He translated more than thirteen books from English into Arabic. In addition to his academic career, he worked as a translator and Head of News Editing at the General Organization of Radio and Television in Damascus during the 1970s. Between 1966 and 1971, Al-Bajarmi presented his well-known television program “Curiosities from Around the World” on Syrian television, where he became famous for his iconic phrase, “Imagine, may God protect you.”
