Ahmad Yusuf al-Hasan ( June 25 , 1925 – April 28 , 2012 ) was a Palestinian scientist and historian. He was born in the village of Mushayrifa near Umm al-Fahm during the British Mandate of Palestine.
He was educated at the Arab College in Jerusalem ; he holds a Syrian passport in addition to Canadian citizenship. He was awarded the French Legion of Honor and is a historian of Arab science and Islamic technology. He holds a PhD in mechanical engineering from the University of London .
He worked at the University of Aleppo and was Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and later President of the University of Aleppo , where he founded the Institute of Arab Scientific Heritage in Aleppo and was its first director. He was also the Minister of Petroleum, Mineral Resources and Electricity in Syria .
