Information
Shawqi Madiouf Shaath is a Palestinian archaeologist and academic from the city of Beersheba. He earned his PhD with distinction and honors in Oriental Archaeology from the University of Rome. He completed a four-month training program in conservation sciences at the International Centre in Rome, followed by a specialized course in Yugoslavia on the rescue and preservation of historic buildings in seismic zones under the supervision of the same center.
He also undertook training in the use of modern techniques in archaeological excavation at the Liertz Foundation in Rome, and received prior training at the Syrian Directorate-General of Antiquities and Museums in museum display methods and museum management.
Dr. Shaath served as Director of Antiquities and Museums for the northern region of Syria and worked as a Heritage Expert for the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO). He was an Associate Professor at Dhamar University in Yemen in the Department of Archaeology and Museums.
He is a member of the International Advisory Centre for Documentation in Cambridge, United Kingdom, and a member of the German Society for Oriental Studies based in Berlin.
