Ziad Al-Darawi is a Palestinian engineer and inventor. He was honored at the League of Arab States in cooperation with SI Technologies and the Arab Youth Council for Integrated Development for inventing a wheelchair designed for people with disabilities.
The wheelchair is controlled through eye movements using specialized glasses electronically connected to custom circuits, enabling smooth directional control of the chair. The operating mechanism is somewhat comparable to starting and stopping a conventional car, but instead relies on specific body movements that are linked to electronic circuits.
Al-Darawi explained that the glasses used to operate the wheelchair can also be applied across various electronic fields to assist people with disabilities in carrying out many daily tasks with ease. Therefore, the glasses are not limited to mobility alone, but have broader technological applications.
