Information

Samir Abu Aisha is a professor of civil engineering at An-Najah National University, Palestine. He received his PhD in civil engineering (transportation) from Pennsylvania State University, USA, in 1987, and his Master’s degree in the same field from the same university in 1984. He received his BS in civil engineering from the University of Jordan in 1982. He worked as the head of the Civil Engineering Department, then Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, then Assistant to the President for Planning and Development at An-Najah National University. He has worked as a visiting professor at a number of American, German, and French universities. He has served as an advisor to the Palestinian Ministry of Planning since its establishment, and was then appointed Minister of Planning. He has also served as Acting Minister of Finance, Acting Minister of Education and Higher Education, and Acting Deputy Prime Minister. He has chaired or been a member of several ministerial committees.

Areas of specialization and research interest include road and transportation planning and engineering, traffic engineering, transportation systems management, strategic planning, spatial planning, national and regional planning, infrastructure development, and engineering education. He has authored or co-authored more than 100 published or conference papers, and co-authored two books and five technical guides. He has served as a consultant to many local, Arab and international entities in various fields, and has worked as a consultant on many road, transportation and infrastructure planning and development projects in Palestine.
